Seattle Local Movers, Billed by the Hour
A local move might be a studio in Capitol Hill to a one-bedroom in Ballard, a condo in South Lake Union to a house in West Seattle, or a family home in Shoreline to a new one in Renton. Our Seattle local movers bill by the hour for the crew and truck, so the cost follows how much you’re moving and how the day actually goes.
Puget Sound Moving is a family-owned company founded in Seattle in 2009 by owner Cirdan Imbler. Since then we’ve completed more than 20,000 moves across King, Pierce and Snohomish counties, with crews working out of five offices: Seattle, Bellevue, Tacoma, Kent and Tukwila. Every mover on your crew is a full-time, background-checked Puget Sound Moving employee. We don’t send subcontractors or day laborers.
Any move within Washington of 55 miles or less is billed hourly. Longer in-state moves are priced by weight and mileage, and our long distance movers handle those along with out-of-state moves.
Pick the Right Crew Size
A larger crew costs more per hour but finishes sooner, so on a bigger home it’s often the better value. Most moves fall into one of these:
- 2 movers + truck: studios and 1-bedroom apartments
- 3 movers + truck: 2-bedroom apartments and small homes
- 4 movers + truck: 3-bedroom homes
- 4 movers + 2 trucks: 3- to 4-bedroom homes
- 5 movers + 2 trucks: 4- to 5-bedroom homes
- 6 movers + 2 trucks: homes with 5 or more bedrooms

What Every Local Move Includes
- Moving truck and fuel
- Moving blankets and shrink wrap
- Furniture disassembly and reassembly
- Floor and door frame protection
- Elevator reservations and building certificates of insurance handled

Moving Around Seattle and the Puget Sound
Apartments and condos
Many Seattle buildings ask for a reserved elevator and a certificate of insurance before move day. We take care of both, so let us know your building’s requirements when you book. Our apartment movers page covers more.
Hillside homes and tight streets
Steep driveways, long front steps and limited parking are common in Seattle neighborhoods like Queen Anne and Magnolia. Saving a spot for the truck near your door keeps every trip short.
Moving across the water or the county line
Moves from Seattle to the Eastside, south to Kent or Tacoma, or north toward Everett are all local when they stay within 55 miles. An early start helps beat traffic on I-5, I-405 and the bridges.
More than one stop
One move can drop off at several addresses, such as your new home, a storage unit and a family member’s place. Tell us every stop up front so we can plan the route.
How to Keep an Hourly Move Efficient
Finish packing before the crew arrives
Sealed, labeled boxes load quickly. If packing is the holdup, our packers often come the day before so the movers can get straight to work.
Leave clothes in sturdy dressers
Clothes can stay in solid dressers. Take out anything loose or breakable first.
Disconnect appliances ahead of time
Our movers aren’t plumbers or electricians, so washers, fridges with water lines and light fixtures should be disconnected before move day.
Set aside what can’t ride
Gasoline, propane, paint and aerosols can’t go on the truck, and neither can pets or passengers. Plan to bring those yourself.
Local Moving Questions
What counts as a local move?
Any move within Washington of 55 miles or less is billed by the hour for the crew and truck. Moves over 55 miles in the state are priced by weight and mileage, with the truck weighed empty and full.
How much will my local move cost?
It depends on the crew size you need and how long the move takes. Your hourly rate already covers the truck, fuel, blankets, shrink wrap and furniture disassembly, and there are no stair, elevator or fuel fees. A free video estimate is the quickest way to get a number.
How far in advance should I book?
Two to four weeks ahead is ideal. Short-notice dates are often available too, so it’s worth asking even if your move is days away.
Do you move on weekends?
Yes. We move seven days a week, and there’s no weekend surcharge.
Can you move just a few heavy items?
Yes. Some customers pack and move their own boxes and have our local movers in Seattle handle only the furniture, which keeps the hours down.
What Customers Say
Real Google reviews of Puget Sound Moving, labeled with the office that did the move.
Referred by family “I hired Puget Sound moving after my parents referred me to them… The crew arrived promptly, had all the equipment needed, and clearly communicated with me on timeline expectations. The crew took extra care to properly wrap all of my belongings so that they would not get damaged. I was especially concerned about a arc lamp I had, But it’s arrived perfectly.”
Packed & moved “I will never move my own stuff again. Even just having them move the bed by itself made it all worth it. They wrapped and packed everything up and moved everything we asked promptly and professionally.”
House protected “The folks did a very personalized and a perfect job, very cautious not to damage house or paint at the source and destination.”
