Seattle Antique Movers Who Plan Every Piece

A grandfather clock, a china cabinet with its original wavy glass, a dresser that came west with your great-grandparents: antiques carry stories that can’t be bought again, and they don’t move like modern furniture. Old joinery loosens, veneer chips, and marble tops crack when they’re handled the wrong way. Our Seattle antique movers slow down for these pieces and plan how each one will be wrapped, carried, and loaded before it leaves the room.

Puget Sound Moving is a family-owned company founded in Seattle in 2009, and our crews are full-time, background-checked employees, not subcontractors or day laborers. Whether you’re moving a houseful of heirlooms across town or bringing home a single piece from a relative in Tacoma, the same crew handles it from start to finish.

How We Protect Antiques and Heirlooms

  • We walk through each antique with you before we touch it
  • Extra padding and custom wrapping on every surface
  • Legs, corners, and carved details protected on their own
  • Glass shelves and mirrors packed separately
  • Pieces loaded upright and strapped in place, never stacked
  • Floors and door frames protected at both homes

At the new home, we unwrap each piece, reassemble anything we took apart, and set it exactly where you want it. Moving blankets, shrink wrap, and furniture disassembly and reassembly are included on every move.

Antiques That Need Extra Planning

China cabinets and hutches

Glass shelves come out and travel in their own cartons, doors are secured so they can’t swing, and the cabinet rides upright and strapped.

Clocks, mirrors, and framed art

Tall clocks, gilt mirrors, and artwork get custom wrapping and corner protection and stay upright on the truck.

Pianos and very heavy pieces

Antique pianos, safes, and pool tables need the right crew size and equipment. Mention them when you book so we plan for them.

Pieces that need a crate

Some fragile or high-value items travel best in a custom wooden crate built by our ISPM-15 certified packers. Crating is an added cost, and we’ll talk through it at your estimate.

Getting Your Antiques Ready to Move

  1. Point out every antique at the estimate

Walk our Seattle team through your pieces on a free video estimate, and tell us about old repairs, loose joints, or fragile veneer so we can plan for them.

  2. Photograph each piece

Take clear photos from a few angles so you have a record of each item’s condition before move day.

  3. Ask about valuation coverage

Basic coverage on any move is limited. If you’re moving valuable antiques, ask us about valuation options, which are available at an added cost.

  4. Empty heavy contents from drawers

Heavy items strain old joinery, so take books and dishes out of antique dressers and cabinets. We’ll let you know which pieces should travel empty.

Antique Moves Across Seattle and the Puget Sound

Seattle has plenty of older homes with narrow stairways, tight landings, and original door openings that were never meant for a nine-foot armoire. Our antique movers in Seattle take the time to measure, plan the route out of the house, and take pieces apart when that’s the safer choice. Stairs and long carries never add a fee; they only affect how long the move takes.

We move antiques throughout King, Pierce, and Snohomish counties from offices in Seattle, Bellevue, Tacoma, Kent, and Tukwila. Local moves are billed by the hour, and longer moves across Washington or out of state are priced separately; see our moving prices page for how that works. Antiques are often one part of a bigger job, so many customers pair this service with our packing services or specialty moving for items like pianos and safes.

Antique Moving Questions

Can you move just one antique piece?

Often, yes. Whether it’s an estate-sale find across Seattle or a family piece coming from elsewhere in the Puget Sound, tell us what it is and where it’s going, and we’ll let you know how we’d handle it.

Do my antiques need to be crated?

Most antiques travel safely with extra padding, custom wrapping, and careful loading. If a piece would be safer in a custom wooden crate, we’ll talk it through at your estimate. Crating is an added cost.

Are my antiques covered if something is damaged?

Every move includes basic coverage, but it’s limited. For valuable antiques, ask about valuation options before your move. We also offer a 48-hour damage guarantee: report damage within 48 hours and we’ll repair or replace it.

Can antiques be part of a full household move?

Yes. Most of the antiques we move are part of a full home move. Point them out during your estimate so the crew plans the time and materials for them.

Do you move antique pianos?

Yes. Pianos are one of the specialty items we move. Mention it when you book so we send the right crew and equipment.
