Seattle Long Distance Movers for In-State and Cross-Country Moves

Whether you’re leaving Seattle for Spokane, heading to California or Arizona, or moving to the Puget Sound from somewhere else in the country, our Seattle long distance movers handle the whole trip with the same crew standards we bring to every local job. We move households across Washington and throughout the continental US.

Puget Sound Moving is a family-owned company founded in Seattle in 2009, with more than 20,000 moves completed and offices in Seattle, Bellevue, Tacoma, Kent and Tukwila. The people who load your truck are full-time, background-checked employees, not subcontractors or day laborers picked up for the job.

How Long Distance Moves Are Priced

Moves over 55 miles within Washington

In-state moves longer than 55 miles are priced by weight and mileage. The truck is weighed empty and again once it’s loaded, so you pay for what you actually ship.

Out-of-state moves

For moves leaving Washington, we review your inventory and give you a written estimate. The more complete the inventory, the more accurate the estimate.

Either way, there are no stair fees, elevator fees or fuel surcharges. Truck and fuel, moving blankets, shrink wrap, furniture disassembly and reassembly, and floor and door frame protection come with every move. Moves within 55 miles are billed hourly by our local movers.

How a Long Distance Move Comes Together

  1. Free video estimate

Walk us through your home on a video call. We note large furniture, fragile items and anything that needs special handling.

  2. Packing

Pack yourself, or have our packing crew handle all of it, just the kitchen, or only the fragile items. Packers often come the day before loading, and every box is labeled by room and contents.

  3. Loading day

Furniture is wrapped in blankets and shrink wrap, taken apart where needed and loaded to ride securely over a long drive. We handle elevator reservations and building certificates of insurance.

  4. Delivery and setup

At your new home, we unload, reassemble furniture and place each piece where you want it. A single move can also deliver to more than one address.

Where Our Seattle Movers Go

Many of our long moves stay in Washington, from the Puget Sound to the other side of the Cascades. Others head south and east. We’ve put together guides for some of the most common routes out of Seattle:

Moving into the region instead? Our long distance movers in Seattle can bring your things in from out of state and deliver anywhere in King, Pierce or Snohomish county.

Planning Tips for a Move Out of Seattle

Book four to eight weeks out

Long distance moves and summer dates fill first. Booking early gives you the best choice of loading days.

Trim before the estimate

Every piece takes up space and weight on a long trip. Sell or donate what you won’t miss before your video walkthrough so the estimate reflects what’s really going.

Plan for what can’t ride

Gasoline, propane, paint and aerosols can’t go on the truck, and pets and passengers can’t ride in it. Bring essentials, documents and medications with you.

Use storage if the dates don’t line up

If your new place isn’t ready, we can hold your things in storage and deliver them when you are, in state or out of state.

Long Distance Moving Questions

How much will my long distance move cost?

Moves over 55 miles within Washington are priced by weight and mileage. Out-of-state moves get a written estimate after we review your inventory. The fastest way to start is a free video estimate.

How accurate will my estimate be?

The estimate is only as good as the inventory behind it. A thorough video walkthrough, including closets, the garage and storage spaces, gives us what we need to price the move accurately.

How far ahead should I book?

Four to eight weeks ahead is best for long distance and summer moves. If your timeline is shorter, ask anyway, because short-notice dates are often available.

Do you offer extra coverage for valuable items?

Yes. Basic coverage is limited, so if you’re moving valuable pieces, ask about valuation options, which are available at an added cost.

Can you store my belongings between homes?

Yes. We offer short- and long-term storage in a temperature-controlled, alarmed facility and can deliver from storage when you’re ready.
